SMARAGD SL, offering a new, extraordinary mass/performance relation.

We are on the final steps of certification for our new SL - the "super light" Smaragd, incorporating new materials and some new technologies which lead to real interesting weights. We were basically questioning all parts and procedures in the aircraft and came up with new production technologies that lead to real low weights without loosing strength. All aircraft from 2010 can be ordered right now with a special winter discount and especially the glider towing community should have an interesting look at the new weights.

We are able to offer a Smaragd with Rotax 912 ULS (100 hp), COM, TRP, glider clutch at 258 kg without and 270 kg with rescue system.

The aircraft is adopted to the US-LSA specification which is:
wingspan 9.60 m, larger winglets and a little more wing area, less wing load.
Length 6.12 m
Hight 2.3 m

After real interesting and successful spin testing we did some cosmetic work on the fin in order to keep the aircraft design. To ease the change for pilots from PPL-licences, we also added an acoustic stall warning device just what you would expect in a Cessna or Piper. The wing tanks of 2x55 litres are standard now and the canopy gets a new design, offering a lot more headroom for pilots above 1.9 m. We are also adding canopy locks that can be handled from the inside and outside in case of emergency.

All this leads to new load/performance equations and we are able to change the speed settings. The VNE of 270 km/h remains unchanged, but the speeds related to strength and load are changed as follwos:

VS0: 63 km/h  (minimum speed in landing configuration)
VS1: 77 km/h  (minimum speed in cruise configuration)
VFE: 120 km/h (maximum speed with flaps extended)
VA:  200 km/h (max speed at full aileron/rudder/elevator usage)
VN0: 220 km/h  (turbulent air speed, green arch)
VH: 245 km/h (max horizontal speed at max contin. engine performance)
